Joker

Two days ago I wrote “Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right”. Here is the Joker. In the centre of Glasgow.

Glasgow Airport Continued

So we were in Glasgow Airport enjoying a coffee at a window of the whisky bar. Great view of the hills. The little blue aircraft taking of is Scotland’s own Loganair.  They also solve a mystery: what does the haggis look like in the wild. In this case: the fling haggis, unfortunately extinct.

Wij waren dus in de luchthaven van Glasgow beland en dronken een koffie aan het raam in de whiskybar. Met een mooi zicht op de achterliggende heuvels. Het kleine blauwe vliegtuigje is er eentje van Loganair, Schotland’s eigen luchtvaartmaatschappij. In de bar lossen ze ook een eeuwenoud Schots mysterie op: hoe ziet de haggis er uit. In het bijzonder de vliegende haggis, intussen jammer genoeg uitgeroeid.

Good Collage

As promised two days ago: the correct collage. What makes this one so much better than the previous one, or what did I do wrong before.

The proportions are correct. I had cropped in too closely to the girl on the left, to hide the crowded surroundings. But this made this girl a giant in comparison to the other two girls, where she is, in fact, the smallest of the 3.

Baseline: the feet of the girls are more or less on the same line and they have an equal stroke of street tiles below their feet. In the previous photo the middle girl’s feet were the lowest and she had less space beneath her feet. That contributed to her being the midget of the 3, where she is in fact the tallest girl.

Photo size: so as to get this coherent result, I sized all 3 photos to exactly the same size. This was not the case in the first collage, where the first photo was the thinnest, again contributing to making the smallest girl the giant of the 3.

Much better like this, don’t you think so?

And thanks to the friends who did not comment on the mistakes, but I’m sure some of you saw clearly where I went wrong.

Zoals ik twee dagen gelegen beloofde: de verbeterde collage. Wat maakt dit zo veel beter dan de vorige en wat deed ik voordien verkeerd?

De proporties zijn nu correct. De uitsnede van de dame links was te krap. Ik deed dat om de drukte weg te werken. Maar zo werd het meisje een reuzin in vergelijking met de andere meisjes, terwijl ze in realiteit de kleinste van de 3 is.

Baseline: de voeten van de meisjes bevinden zich nu min of meer op dezelfde hoogte in de compositie en elk meisje heef even veel ruimte tussen haar voeten en de onderrand van de foto. In de vorige collage had het middenste meisje het minst ruimte onder haar voeten. Daardoor werd zij het dwergje, terwijl ze in het echt de langste van de 3 is.

De afmetingen van de 3 afgewerkte foto’s zijn gelijk. Dit is niet het geval in de eerste collage, waar de linkse foto de smalste is, wat opnieuw bijdraagt aan het verkeerd proportioneren van het meisje.

Zo is deze collage toch veel beter, vind je niet?

Dank aan de vrienden die de fouten niet becommentarieerden, maar ik weet wel dat sommigen onder jullie duidelijk zagen waar ik de fout ik ging. Maar jullie zijn natuurlijk diplomatisch.

Air Bar

A nice surprise when we got back to Glasgow Airport is that they actually have a whisky bar once you are through to the terminals. We had a while to wait, so we did that with a good coffee. Yes, coffee.

Een leuke verrassing toen wij op de luchthaven waren is dat ze er een whisky café hebben eens je voorbij de controles bent. Wij moesten nog een eindje wachten dus deden wij dat met een lekkere koffie. Jawel, koffie.

De collage van gisteren moet ik nog herwerken, nu even geen tijd genoeg.

Bad Collage

I got this completely wrong. Show how out of shape I am with post processing. But I’m posting it anyway, as I don’t have the time left today to correct my errors. I’ll try and get this done by tomorrow and they I’ll post the corrected collage. These women are walking the Style Mile in Glasgow.

Dit is compleet out. Toont hoe ‘uit’ ik ben wat fotobewerking betreft. Maar ik post deze collage toch, want vandaag heb ik geen tijd meer over om mijn fouten te corrigeren. Ik probeer het tegen morgen verbeterd te krijgen en dan post ik het gecorrigeerde beeld. Deze vrouwen wandelen de Style Mile in Glasgow.

Fancy Glasswork

Some more expensive fancy glasswork on the Style Mile in Glasgow. Been a while since I made a collage.

Nog een beetje mooi glaswerk op de Style Mile in Glasgow. Was al een tijdje geleden dat ik nog eens een collage maakte.

Vases

These vases on the Style Mile cost 690 £ each. A bargain, I would say.

Deze vazen op de Style Mile kosten 690 £ stuk. Een prikje als je ’t mij vraagt.

Argyll & Chambers

The Argyll & Chambers arcade is accessible from The Style Mile or Buchanan Street, as it is officially called. This is a more authentic shopping gallery, there are photos of it dating from 1905-1910. This section of Glasgow as in fact procured by Andrew Buchanan in 1763, hence the name of the street. Tabacco Lord Buchanan predicted that the city of Glasgow would grow in this direction, so he procured the land to profit from the further expansion. Samuel, the jeweller in the left of the photo, was in fact already around in the beginning of the 1900’s. You cannot see it in this photo, but the archade had many security guards patrolling it and it is locked down safely after shopping hours.

De Argyll & Chambers winkelgalerij is toegankelijk van op de Style Mile, of officieel Buchanan Street. Dit is een authentieke winkelgalerij, je vindt er online foto’s van die van 1905-1910 dateren. Dit deel van Glasgow werd door Andrew Buchanan gekocht in 1763, vandaar de straatnaam. Takaksmagnaat Buchanan voorspelde dat de stad in deze richting zou uitbreiden en kocht het land om van die uitbreiding te kunnen profiteren. Samuel, de juwelier links in de foto, was er ook al in het begin van de jaren 1900. Ik wou ze niet op de foto zetten, maar deze galerij wordt zwaar bewaakt en goed afgesloten na sluitingsuur.

Nog enkele foto’s van de binnenkant van Princes Galerij. Geen inspanning was precies te veel in deze ontwikkeling.

Style Mile

I’m getting at the end of my inspiration as far as Glasgow goes. So I’ll finish with the Style Mile: fashion, expensive luxury goods, money spending trap. This shopping gallery, complete with dancefloor, is just out of this world.
